Job Overview
The Marine Environmental Compliance Officer will be responsible for ensuring that client operations involving marine activities adhere to national and international environmental regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough environmental compliance assessments for marine projects, including ports, offshore installations, and fisheries.
- Develop and implement compliance monitoring plans aligned with Tunisian law, EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive, and IMO conventions.
- Prepare comprehensive audit reports, highlighting gaps, risks, and actionable recommendations.
- Collaborate with client legal teams to interpret regulatory requirements and support permit acquisition processes.
- Lead stakeholder engagement sessions with government agencies, NGOs, and local communities to foster transparent communication.
- Stay updated on emerging marine environmental standards and integrate best practices into client advisory services.
- Assist in the design of environmental management systems (EMS) tailored to marine operations.
- Support incident investigations and develop corrective action plans to prevent future non‑compliance.
Required Skills
- In‑depth knowledge of marine environmental legislation, including MARPOL, UNCLOS, and regional Tunisian regulations.
- Strong analytical abilities to interpret complex data sets and translate findings into clear recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French; Arabic proficiency is a plus.
- Proficiency with compliance management software and GIS tools for spatial analysis.
- Project management experience, with the ability to handle multiple client engagements simultaneously.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within cross‑functional teams.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Oceanography, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) or professional certifications such as Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) or ISO 14001 Lead Auditor are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in marine environmental compliance, environmental impact assessments, or related consulting roles. Experience working with multinational clients and familiarity with the regulatory landscape of the Mediterranean region will be considered a strong advantage.
Salary
