Job Overview
The Marine Environmental Compliance Officer will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental compliance programs related to marine operations, offshore activities, and coastal projects. Reporting to the Regional Environmental Manager, the incumbent will ensure that all Shell activities in Tunisia adhere to national regulations, international conventions, and internal standards. This position plays a critical role in risk assessment, incident investigation, and stakeholder engagement, fostering a proactive compliance culture throughout the organization. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineering, legal, and operations teams to embed sustainability into daily practices, supporting Shell’s vision of net‑zero emissions and responsible resource management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain marine environmental compliance policies aligned with Tunisian law and international frameworks such as MARPOL and OSPAR.
- Conduct regular audits, inspections, and monitoring of offshore facilities, ports, and coastal sites to verify adherence to environmental standards.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive compliance reports to regulatory authorities, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
- Lead incident investigations related to marine spills, emissions, or habitat disturbances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate with cross‑functional teams to integrate environmental considerations into project planning and execution.
- Engage with local communities, NGOs, and government agencies to promote transparent communication and collaborative problem‑solving.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of evolving environmental legislation, industry best practices, and emerging technologies.
- Provide training and mentorship to staff on marine environmental regulations and sustainable operational practices.
Required Skills
- In‑depth understanding of marine environmental law, impact assessment, and mitigation strategies.
- Strong analytical abilities to interpret complex data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French; Arabic is a plus.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Oceanography, or a closely related field is required. Experience
