Job Overview
The Sustainable Packaging Engineer will lead the design, development, and implementation of innovative packaging solutions that meet Nestlé’s stringent sustainability standards while ensuring product safety, functionality, and cost‑effectiveness. This role reports to the Head of Packaging Innovation and works closely with cross‑functional teams including R&D, Procurement, Marketing, and Production. The engineer will evaluate material alternatives, conduct life‑cycle assessments, and drive projects that reduce plastic usage, increase recyclability, and improve overall environmental performance of Nestlé’s product portfolio in Tunisia.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of eco‑friendly packaging concepts for dairy, beverage, and snack products.
- Conduct material feasibility studies, cost analyses, and life‑cycle assessments to evaluate environmental impact.
- Collaborate with suppliers to source recyclable, biodegradable, and renewable packaging materials.
- Coordinate prototype testing, validation, and scale‑up activities in the Gafsa manufacturing plant.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, Nestlé Global Packaging Guidelines, and international standards such as ISO 14001.
- Drive continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing packaging weight, waste, and carbon emissions.
- Prepare technical documentation, project reports, and presentations for senior management.
- Support marketing teams with sustainability messaging and consumer education initiatives.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of packaging materials (plastics, paper, bio‑based polymers) and their environmental attributes.
- Proficiency in CAD software, material simulation tools, and life‑cycle assessment platforms.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and project‑management abilities.
- Effective communication skills to influence internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications in Sustainable Design, Circular Economy, or Packaging Innovation is highly desirable.
Experience
Applicants should have 3 to 5 years of hands‑on experience in packaging engineering, preferably within the food and beverage industry. Experience with sustainable material sourcing, regulatory compliance, and cross‑functional project leadership is essential.
