Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Railway Signaling Systems Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team in Bizerte. This pivotal role involves the design, configuration, testing, and validation of complex railway signaling systems, including Computer-Based Interlocking (CBI), Automatic Train Protection (ATP), and Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC). The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all signaling solutions meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance, in strict compliance with international standards (CENELEC, ISO) and local regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and validate detailed signaling system architectures and functional specifications for railway projects.
- Configure and parameterize signaling software and hardware components, including interlocking systems and trackside equipment.
- Perform safety analyses and develop safety cases in accordance with CENELEC EN 50126, EN 50128, and EN 50129 standards.
- Conduct integration testing, system validation, and on-site commissioning activities for signaling subsystems.
- Collaborate with project managers, systems engineers, and installation teams to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery.
- Provide technical support and expertise during the entire project lifecycle, from tender phase to warranty period.
- Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, test procedures, and as-built documentation.
- Interface with clients, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to address technical queries and ensure compliance.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and safety audits.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in railway signaling technology and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- In-depth knowledge of railway signaling principles, systems, and technologies (e.g., ETCS, CBTC).
- Proficiency in systems engineering methodologies and the V-model development lifecycle.
- Strong understanding of railway safety standards and certification processes (CENELEC RAMS).
- Experience with signaling design tools and software configuration environments.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills for complex systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and system architecture diagrams.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for teamwork and client interaction.
- Proficiency in English and French; Arabic is a strong asset.
- Adaptability and willingness to travel to project sites within Tunisia and occasionally internationally.
Education
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field is required. Specialized certifications in railway signaling, functional safety (e.g., CFSE), or project management (PMP, PRINCE2) are considered significant advantages. Experience
A minimum of 5 to 8 years of progressive experience in railway signaling systems engineering is required. Candidates must have a proven track record in the design, testing, or commissioning of mainline or urban rail signaling projects. Prior experience working with major signaling product families (e.g., Alstom Urbalis, Siemens Trainguard) and familiarity with simulation and testing tools are highly desirable. Experience in a multinational engineering environment is preferred.
