Job Overview

The Geotechnical Engineering Manager will lead the geotechnical department, overseeing site investigations, rock mechanics analyses, and ground stability assessments for ongoing and upcoming mining projects. Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mining engineers, environmental specialists, and project managers, to deliver robust engineering solutions that meet regulatory standards and corporate sustainability goals. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all geotechnical investigations, including drilling, sampling, and laboratory testing.
  • Develop and validate rock mass classification models and slope stability analyses for open‑pit and underground operations.
  • Provide technical guidance on ground support design, blasting optimization, and excavation sequencing.
  • Collaborate with environmental teams to ensure compliance with local and international regulations.
  • Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, risk assessments, and recommendations for senior management.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Monitor and control project budgets related to geotechnical activities.
  • Represent ArcelorMittal Tunisia in stakeholder meetings, community outreach, and industry conferences.

Required Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, Rocscience, and GeoStudio.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a focus on practical implementation.
  • Excellent communication skills in French and English; Arabic is a plus.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to interpret geological data and translate findings into actionable engineering solutions.
  • Familiarity with Tunisian mining regulations and international best practices.

Education

A Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering with a specialization in rock mechanics, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as PE (Professional Engineer) or equivalent are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering within the mining sector, including at least three years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Experience with large‑scale open‑pit or underground projects in North Africa is preferred.

Salary

The competitive salary range for this role is 60,000 – 90,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and long‑term incentive plans are also part of the compensation package.
