Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Agricultural Robotics Systems Engineer to join our Advanced Technology & Innovation team in Kasserine. This role is central to designing, developing, and implementing robotic systems and autonomous solutions for modern farming operations. The successful candidate will work on integrating robotics with precision agriculture technologies to automate tasks such as planting, weeding, harvesting, and crop monitoring. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop robotic systems and autonomous platforms for agricultural applications, including mobile robots for field operations.
- Integrate sensors, actuators, and control systems to enable precise navigation and task execution in unstructured outdoor environments.
- Develop and implement computer vision and machine learning algorithms for crop detection, weed identification, and yield estimation.
- Collaborate with agronomy teams to understand field requirements and translate them into technical specifications for robotic systems.
- Conduct field trials, collect performance data, and iterate on designs to improve reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Create detailed system architecture, documentation, and testing protocols for robotic platforms.
- Work with software engineers to develop the middleware and user interfaces for robot operation and data management.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues during development, testing, and deployment phases.
- Stay current with advancements in robotics, sensors, and precision agriculture technologies.
- Ensure all designs comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements for agricultural machinery.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in robotics system design, including kinematics, dynamics, and control theory.
- Strong experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, or ROS (Robot Operating System).
- Hands-on experience with sensors (LiDAR, cameras, GPS, IMU) and embedded systems.
- Knowledge of computer vision, machine learning, and path planning algorithms.
- Familiarity with mechanical design tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) and simulation software.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and analytical skills for complex system integration.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage timelines and deliverables.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Understanding of agricultural practices and challenges in Tunisian or similar climates is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
Education
A Master’s degree in Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics, Agricultural Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field is required. A Ph.D. is preferred for candidates with a strong research background in agricultural robotics. Certifications in robotics, autonomous systems, or precision agriculture are advantageous. Continuous learning in emerging technologies is encouraged and supported.
Experience
Minimum of 5-8 years of professional experience in robotics engineering, with at least 3 years focused on agricultural or outdoor mobile robotics. Proven track record in designing, building, and deploying robotic systems in real-world environments. Experience with field testing and validation of robotic platforms is essential. Previous work in an AgriTech or precision farming company is highly desirable. Experience with regulatory compliance and safety standards for agricultural equipment is a plus.
